Remote measuring is typically used when a measurement is needed from a:
- a difficult to access location – a place that is dangerous to humans such as equipment with moving parts or areas of extreme temperature.
- an unsafe location – a place where it may be unsafe for a person to make a measurement on a regular basis such as in a pit, or mine.
- a remote location – either a location that is not visited often enough for the measurement or would take considerable work or cost to visit.
In all of the above, it may be very easy to have a permanent video feed and be able to make a measurement from the comfort of an office.
